Why We Walk: BCU's Team Pennies for Preemies raises more than $10,000May 10, 2012
BCU’s Team Pennies for Preemies successfully raised over $10,000 walking for the March of Dimes “Save the Babies” campaign. Along with family and friends, BCU employees joined hundreds of other March of Dimes supporters to walk the 5k route as part of the Lake County March for Babies on Sunday, April 29th. The event marks BCU’s continued support of the March of Dimes Foundation.
Additional fundraising efforts also included a 50/50 Raffle, Penny Wars, Jeans Week and a silent auction organized by the BCU Community Partnership Committee. Money raised will help support the March of Dimes mission to give all babies the opportunity to begin healthy lives by funding community programs and important research aimed at preventing premature birth and infant mortality.
Sarah Johnson, team captain for the BCU walk and active year-round volunteer for March of Dimes said of the events, “March of Dimes is important to me because it’s an organization that fights for those who can’t fight for themselves; for the babies. The research they do is helping to find the cure for things that shouldn’t happen during a normal, healthy pregnancy. They advocate for all babies to start their lives healthy,” adding, “it’s an important cause to BCU because it shows we care; we’re supporting a cause near and dear to many of our employees’ hearts.”
To date, BCU’s Team Pennies for Preemies has raised a total of $10,770 in support of March of Dimes for 2012, collectively raising more than $32,000 for the foundation throughout the last three years of fundraising efforts.
